I'm looking for a reliable program that I can use to backtest my strategies with multiple pairs. I'm totally frustrated to MT4's tester and at this point I'm willing to learn a new programming language (it's not a big thing for me) to test my strategies with some decent tester that can handle all the portfolio - in this case all the currency pairs available at my broker or some subsection of them.
So my question is: what is the tester you would recommend? I have been thinking about wealth lab, does anyone have any comments about that? Trading blox also has a platform but I don't know anything about it (except that trading blox is operated by a very bright ex-turtle guy). Does anyone have any other recommendations? Ninja trader? Tradestation?
I´ve moved your post to this thread. Take a little read, maybe you could find what you need.

Okay thanks I'll do that.
edit: hmm this thread seems to be about one specific market simulator and I as far as I can read it can't test portfolio strategies (automatic trading strategies). To be honest, I don't think this is a correct thread for the question I asked..
I don't want to hijack this but my question is: does anyone have information about wealth lab or other "professional" commercially available automatic strategy testers? I'm not looking for a market simulator.
Look at the commercial section. If I remember it was some old commercial thread about window's applicaion software to backtest multiple pairs ... if I did not delete it ...

It definitely can test portfolio of automated strategies. It was designed to do this.
How do you make the stratagy tester run in visual mode so you can test a indicator by itself rather then a EA?
Or do you have to use a EA with stratagy tester?
++ support now Stock and CFD
++ Label on Chart (therefore it is possible indicators or scripts to program like xMeter)
1. Multiwindow interface. The main and most demanded feature. It will be possible to open many windows of different currencies and different timeframes of one currency at the same time.
2. Indicator over indicator at the same window.
3. Drawing in an oscillator window. User will be able to paint lines and other graphical objects in an oscillator window like on the main chart.
4. User timeframes. User will be able to modify list of timeframes, add his own timeframes (even like 38 min, 13 min) and delete useless to him to speed up testing.
5. Tick by tick testing mode. Now the smallest step is 1 minute, it will be possible to see every tick price update.
6. Will add parameter to set minimum distance to price where user can set an order. Now this distance equals to spread.
7. New paint instruments like boxes, ellipses and freehand paint will be added after release of version 2.
8. Yes, yes, I remember to make dividers between main chart and oscillator windows thicker...
9. Improvements to saving/loading projects.
10. It will be possible to choose how to work with positions - to open new positions or to partially close single position.
11. User will be able to choose on which timeframes to make instrument visible and invisible on others. (for lines, fibonacci tools, etc)
12. Will be possible to work not only with currency pairs but also with other instruments like indices, stocks.
13. Will be added window for indicator values, to see all indicators' values for the current chart in form of table.
14. Option to add/withdraw deposit during testing.
I've read the thread on : Strategy testers ; a forex tester which eventually developed as a commercial package for sales. It's a good idea but it doesn't use the MT4 client (only the hst data file) and you need to convert all the custom indicator from MT4 to Forex Tester which could be quite painful.
Currently mt4 get the data through the creation of new a/c from the server file in \metatrader 4\config\xxxx.srv via internet connection to the data source server by various brokers.
Thus I am hoping to get a program that will act as a "local" server (need a local "simulation.srv" file) and "feed" the data (historical tick data) into MT4. In this way, we will be able to use the full function of MT4 and indicators just as it is and run the simulation of test just like Forex Tester.
Hi,
I want to start by saying, that Im NOT selling anything.. Im NOT an affiliate.. Just a user of this product.
Having written 100's of EA's, and dozens of back testers from scratch using Oanda and Gain tick data.. Ive finally found something worth using..
Its Forextester.com
Ive been in constant communication with the author now for 6 or so months. Thought Id share my thoughts.
1. Lets say that you want to manually trade a strategy from a year ago? How do you do that in MT4? Well, you would typically look at old charts, and then you'd be looking at finished or closed candles..
Forex tester lets drop any and all indicators on the chart, and Step tick by tick through time, and trade just like you would have had you been sitting there. Top the clock, speed it up , slow it down.. Its sweet. Place market orders, pending orders, and watch them transpire..
2. The reason Im so thrilled with FT, is that I can write extensive Backtests, using the API. Its very very much like MT4, however in this case , you are going to write a DLL in C or Delphi. You can..
a. Watch your strategy/robot trade before your very eyes, thus verifying that its working right, visually. Step forward or backward..fast or slow.
b. backtest many currencies at the same time, in the same strategy. A hedgers delight. Try doing that in an EA backtest. you cant
c. And Get this.. You can even trade Multi strategies at the same time.. It would be like running a back test on multi EA's , all at once, and treat it as a bucket. Nice
d. Load tick data, test your scalping strategies much more effectively.
e. Way easier to debug, you can step through your code using your IDE in Delphi or C.
f. Optimize your parameters, much like you would in your strategy tester in MT4. (This still needs some polish, but does work well)
Now that you have proven your concept.. NOW you can build your EA. At this point, you already know if the idea is sound or not. No farting around trying to second guess.
You can get for free, and its cheap to buy.
Anyway, those that are ready to flame me, my only motivation in posting this is to help the guy stay a float. Im not selling anything..
Im a happy customer, and the author has been really responsive to me. For that, Im trying to show my gratitude.
