Can you explain as to why it eventually failed in the competition? As far as what I know from many postings here and there [not meaning this EA], anything with MA's or Breakouts usually is not that successful.

Hi,

The Hercules that competed in the competition was different than the version that you'll find here. Hercules fell out of 1st place due to a string of losses. Since the competition a series of filter have been added to greatly reduce the probability of a similar situation happening again.

Most breakout models fail because they only perform well in trending markets and usually suffer horribly during oscillating price action. Hercules is not the typical breakout primarily because it does not chase the price action everytime it breaks out of a pre-defined range... instead it waits for major shifts in momentum before entering. It also analyzes the market on several time frames to ensure that previous price action does not suggest an oscillating market and that the longer term sentiment does indeed support the trigger. It is also not the typical MA model because several conditions including market speed, power, and sentiment are all factored when determing optimal entry points and then in addition several filters must be satisfied before the orders are actually submitted. It is also blessed with an excellent risk:reward ratio. When all the elements are combined they add up to an extremely robust unique breakout model.

Can this EA be used to trade micro lots?

Yes, the EA can trade micro lots also. The lot size can be adjusted on the main page of the EA, it is the first parameter. To trade micro lots just enter the fractational value you would like to trade (.01 is 1 micr lot for most brokers).

Hello everyone,

Be careful in dealing with something_witty. I have dealings with him where he has not kept his word on more than one occasion. I will not get into all of the situations but I can assure he has not kept his word with me on any of the items he told me he would do. All of my experiences with him have been bad. This is just a warning for everyone based upon my dealings with something_witty.

This is a very simple breakout MA based on rapid price deviations from a significant moving average. It is designed to work on the H1 time frame. Modifications have recently been made to reduce the drawdowns suffered by Hercules in oscillating market environments but it is still recommendable to pair this EA with a range trading strategy in order to achieve a more consistent equity curve. The risk:reward ratio however is EXTREMELY favorable and winning trades tend to be quite a bit larger than the losing ones.

This is the very first EA that I ever designed (what now seems like over a million years ago), it was coded by David Lin.

Sometimes ago, I read about hercules EA, I thought to download the mq4 later, but I lost where to get it know. Any member can give instruction?
