I have many strategies based on higher time frame charts 15m plus which will work very well on signals from metatrader which are relayed to Interactive brokers. The price volatility fills problem is likely to arise with 1m and 5 m time frames. Most of my orders are limit orders so I do not see a problem with price fills. My systems are mechanical.
An interface between IB and metatrader would cost between $2,000 and $5,000 depending on how expensive your programmer is.I am interested in sharing this cost and getting use of the interface. If any of you are interested in sharing the costs and using the interface please P M me.
The price difference between Metatrader brokers and IB cash looks non existent .The spread is much lower at IB AND THE SPREAD MAKES A LOT OF DIFFERENCE TO OVERALL PROFITABILITY OF A TRADER.
QUOTE PROGRAMMER
Use mq4 platform but when the MT4.0 has a filled order, we send a market order to IB. And when the MT4.0 closes the order, we send the close command to the IB platform and closed the order using market order too. In the way, all of the strategy could be reuse this approach. The over all programming fee is similar.
This may take 40 hours too, but it could be reused by the other strategy. Our price is U.S 50 dollars per hour. UNQUOTE
As you see from the platforms the spreads are much lower and are likely to get even lower in the future.
There is hardly any difference between Oanda and IB in spreads but Oanda are know for bucketshop tactics during newstime and spreads often go to 20 pips

El Cid, if you are prepared to spend that kind of money, why not go with a decent platform - let's face it MT sucks!
I tried scalping with with MT<->InteractiveBrokers and it just proved fustrating - MT relies on tick-based execution which means you are totally reliant on MT recieving a tick b4 you can get IB prices. It just doesn't work...

Of course, longer timeframes should be OK.[/QUOTE]

I am hoping we get 10 of us paying $200 each ,so it is not that expensive per person
You tried it on 1m noise and scalping .It is a non starter .Even 5m is noise.

omelette,
how about feeding IB data into MT4 ? is that doable ? any experiences with that ?
Hi. The API does not yet support this, though the developer promises this and more eventually ('real' historical tick data I'm waiting for...)
But even when these are available, you are still going to be handicapped by MT's shitty tick-based execution - these's no way around this. So for example, even though your charts are built from real IB data, you EA will still have to wait for a tick from the bucket broker in order to get IB data or send trades to IB. So proper scalping on IB using MT will always be a fantasy - best to move to another platform.
there is of course spread widening sometimes but very reasonable, nothing crazy like Oanda. however, spike trading doesn't work and wouldn't suggest it. unfortunately the leverage is limited to 50:1 and the lowest trade size is 25'000 $.
