Unfortunately, MetaTrader isn't really designed for a true "ECN" trading environment. I'm hopeful that MT5 (whenever that comes out) will address that issue. Currently, MetaTrader needs a dealing desk on the back end to function and true ECN's are automated order pairing systems.
The C++ issue is a problem too, but this one leans in favor of mq4. Mq4 is much more dynamic than C++. Complexed EA's and indicators, can't be translated into simple languages like TradeStation. I know because I've tried. However, VT Trader and eSignal seem to handle the transposition. Not sure about Ninja. To be honest, the best trading system/indicator language that I've found so far is "Power Language". It runs on MCFX charting. Very cool charting, but so far the data feeds have proven very unreliable. I wish one of you rich traders would buy MCFX and fix it for us, lol... The charting software is fantastic!
