I have been demo'ing NF for a few weeks. I have had to contact them for a couple of questions. They have never responded when I tried contacting them via e-mail using their advertised address - support@northfinance.com. If I want a timely response (or any response), I had to use their live chat option. The 2 times I tried using live chat support, they were no help at all. I found the conversation frustratingly difficult.
Today, 9/1, I just tried trading the US Non-Farm payroll news release. The servers timed out with no connection until about 12 - 15 minutes after the news release. There were other time outs following the initial re-connect. It's 25 min after the NFP news release and I'm still getting shotty connections.

interbankfx was also worse today during the nfp, i got filled on my straddle 40-50pips later than the order was, so i made only 10pips on interbankfx. however i made my 60pips on my oanda account
I recently switched to EFxGroup. I was tired of the games most MetaTrader Brokers play. I still have an account with NorthFinance, but after todays unacceptable service, I will be closing it. Here is a transcript. Oh it is now over one hour after NFP and I still have no connection with NF. However, trading was normal with EFX.

To be fair, I did contact NF. I still find it unacceptable that they can get attached. I treat trading very seirously. Just like I would not be best pleased if my bank was being attacked or having technical problems. I want them to have top notch security and redundant servers. etc...
Oh,,,I am now back online on my live account, still down on my demo. (1hour 40 minutes after the news.)

Hi,
Even pentagon's network can get hacked. Although I'm not their fans, it's not their fault. So Northfinance and their customer are victims, you both are on the same side.
A DDOS attack is the next generation of a DOS attack. Years ago, you could attack a server or website from 1 single host (computer). For example: the ping of death. By ping'ing a web server (or any internet based server) repeatably, the server has to respond thereby using precious CPU cycles. The ping of death would lock up an internet server causing other requests to that server to be denied. A DDOS is the same concept but instead of the attack coming from one computer, it is coming from multiple computers (or hosts). Hence, the attack is distributed.
Makers of firewalls caught on which is why today any firewall admin worth his salt will turn off responding to any ICMP request (ping, trace route) so the server behind the firewall will never receive the ping.
Normall, it is just one company that is attacked. I don't believe I've heard of an intire ISP being attacked. I would hope they have decent security with the knowledge to implement and maintain it.
