Pucio has a great list of hotkeys, BUT... I noticed there are keystroke sequences to select far more commands using "Alt" menus! When you hit the "Alt" key, then notice how it underlines one letter for each pull-down menu, and then when you hit one of those (e.g. "C" for "Charts" menu), then you have another set of underlined letters to execute one of the sub-menu commands.

For example, a "Refresh" command would be Alt + C + R
To toggle Chart Shift: Alt + C + H

A complex keystroke example would be to turn on the "Select object after creation" option:
Alt + T + O + left-arrow(8times) + right-arrow(2times) + Tab + down-arrow(2times) + "+" (a plus sign turns on the checkbox; minus turns it off)

One can play around with various keystrokes to control the focus. Use the up-down-left-right arrows, Tab, Shift+Tab, Cntl+Tab, Alt, Plus(+), Minus(-), Home, End, Backspace, Delete, and ... whatever else works.

The pictures are from MT4 version 4.00 (build 220). Future versions might change the keystrokes so always verify using the menus. You can see which commands are underlined and what the letters are, and with that, you might figure out how to do almost any command (not quite all though).

I'm having some difficulty with defining an absolutely fixed set of keystrokes to perform some specific tasks because the menus come up in different states depending on the last time the user used that menu. For example, to create a text, do Alt + I + X. At that point, it expects a left-mouse-click. After that, the Object Properties comes up but it might come up with any one of the 3 tabs (Common, Parameters, Visualization). Therefore, to edit the text Description, your keystrokes may vary (unfortunately).

crosshairs

Did you know that you can activate the crosshairs on a chart by clicking the mouse wheel button and by draging the cursor around the chart using the left button, you can measure the number of bars and number of pips from original position to new position.

Hot Keys Expert Advisor to toggle charts

Fellow Forum Members,
I am using Metatrader 4 and what is driving me crazy is that it has no built in feature that enables one to assign hot keys for toggling between charts. I have some 23 currency pairs and scrolling through all of 23 tabs at the bottom is something I dislike doing.

Is there an expert advisor out there that will let me assign a hot keys such as "Control+ALT+1" to toggle over to the USD/GBP chart or "Control+ALT+2" to toggle over to the USD/CAD chart?

I am hoping someone out there has a solution for this because I am the type of computer user that likes to control software apps mostly by using my keyboard keys. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

pip count tool

Hello,

Does anybody have a tool or indicator that could be used similar to Fibonacci tool in MT4 , only difference being, it gives me swing length in number of pips i.e. if i draw from point A to point B in the chart it gives me number of pips between points A and B.

Thanks.

I believe that what you want you is the crosshair, this one is located on the tools of MT4 or you just can use contol+F
