NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The dollar gained against the euro Friday, as persistent concerns about slowing global economic growth sent investors to the safety of the greenback.

The euro extended its earlier losses as worries resurfaced about the negative effects of austerity measures on the economies of some euro-zone nations. In New York trading, the common currency bottomed out at $1.2752, its worst level since July 22, while dropping to a six-week low against the pound and a three-week low against the Swiss franc.

TOKYO, Aug 16 (Reuters) - The yen rose broadly on Monday as high-yielding currencies and Asian equities faltered, with talk of possible demand from Japanese exporters and investor fund repatriation lending the yen additional support.

Data showing that Japan's economic growth slowed markedly in April-June helped drag Tokyo shares lower and supported the low-yielding yen. [ID:nECONJP] The yen is a funding currency for carry trades and tends to rise in times of market stress.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The euro extended its losses Friday, hitting a fresh three-week low against the dollar as persistent concerns about slowing global economic growth dented the common currency.

The euro dipped to $1.2752 in New York trading, its worst level since July 22, with investors filing into the dollar and yen, traditional safe harbors in times of financial doubt. The euro also fell to a six-week low against the pound at GBP81.82 and a three-week low against the Swiss franc at CHF134.23.
