Regarding your query....without ripping apart each EA and knowing what makes them tick in the first place its a bit like asking a mechanic to assess your vehicle why it has stopped running smoothly by simply looking at the paintwork.

However....given that most of the EA's either for sale or posted on the internet for free are VERY (and I repeat VERY) BASIC in design with little to no elegance in determining trend (likely overbought/oversold scalpers), then your first assumption as to the market becoming very trend driven being their downfall is likely correct.

Most Cable pairs are a volatile bunch and terrific for scalping if you have deep pockets and larger stops, but woe and poverty be your lot when the market start trending and you do not cut your losses.

Scalping is designed to maximize profit by engaging profitable trades in a) very short period of time or b) a very short price swing.

The reason are a multitude of reasons that could possible answer directly why a PARTICULAR EA no longer works, but in general its based on how they make their trading decision.

For example, if an EA is based off an indicator such as Stochastics, the probability of the EA doing well in a trending period is definitely decreased as the indicator is more or less meant to work well in a ranging period.

But, if the EA is a price action based scalping system, it will really work regardless of the market situation.
