The very beginners can’t correctly use software for system testing. The most common errors at this stage are: work inside a bar, when instead of a real variant of price path the most optimistic variant is chosen; looking into future in this or that way (what, naturally, can’t be achieved in real life) and pipsing inside spread not taking into account whether it is possible in real trading to execute so many orders within such a short period of time.
“Advanced” traders fall into the trap of result fitting as a rule. I am not an exception. It is very simple to make a decision on history, because we already know the right answer. In reality everything is much more difficult. Use of such as system in reality is likely to have disastrous effects. Moreover, fitting can be of such hidden forms, that even a specialist can’t detect it at the stage of a system creation. My favorite method to combat it is a “blind” test when a certain quite large part of history not used for optimization is selected beforehand. And the final result then is tested on this period. And if you do everything earnestly, it becomes clear what a system is worth of.

Does anyone know if it is allowed to enter an expert advisor that you paid to have developed in the Metaquotes Trading Championship? I read the rules, but I didn't see anything that would forbid that:

There is a lot of various approaches to estimation of trading strategy efficiency. You can consider both the operations of one individual Expert Advisor and the trading results of a group of EAs. Rashid Umarov studied the approach proposed by Mikhail Korolyuk in his article "Be In-Phase" and used his method to analyze the trading results of the Participants of Championships 2006 and 2007.
The trading strategy estimation methods proposed in Mikhail Korolyuk’s article “Be In-Phase” is certainly interesting and informative. Although we have received more evidence that there is no simple formula of creating a “holy grail” in trading, we can see that profitable strategies are easily identified using zero returns curve.
Moreover, we can assume with a certain degree of confidence how the profits were obtained when trading with one or another strategy. For this, it will suffice to see in what chart area the strategy is located when analyzed according to the above methods. A strategy may produce frequent profits, but the average profit will be quite small as compared to the average loss. A strategy may produce rare winning trades, but then the average profit must significantly exceed the average loss. Or it can be a strategy ranging somewhere between the two above.
