In this terminology, egos are elephants, precisely because we are always thinking to be poor cats; but once the lion is found, the elephant is no more needed and can be droped...
There is a nice story from Antony De Mello telling the case of a little eagle living with chikens on the ground and believing he was himself a chiken too, until the day he sees an eagle flying in the blue sky ...
